We don't know much about Akone yet. He found Shakkyo lost on the island of O'ahu, and helped him find his way home. Akone had never left his home before, and this is his first visit to the mainland. He still feels ill at ease in his new surroundings, which are very different from what he is used to.
Akone's father and mother still live on the island of Moloka'i, but Akone and his three brothers each moved, one at a time, to O'ahu, "The Gathering Place", to go to university and earn more money than they could at home. His parents made sure he and his brothers were well-educated... but when the four boys are together as a family, they slip easily and affectionately back into their "pidgin", which is how they spoke together as they were growing up.
In general, Akone is a very friendly, laid-back young man who is easy-going and gets along with everyone at home. But there is something mysterious about him too, which we may find out as we get to know him better.
